ANZ's new logo: $15 million well spent?

ANZ's new logo: $15 million well spent?

ANZ bank has splashed $15 million on a new logo that it claims reflects its 'human' side.

The new logo, at right, features a 'modernised' font and a central 'human' shape that "represents ANZ’s customers and people" flanked by three shapes that signify the bank's operations in Australia, New Zealand and Asia-Pacific.

The new logo will be launched in an advertising campaign from Sunday and ANZ buildings, websites, stationary and marketing material will be re-branded in the coming year at a cost of $15 million.

What do you think of the new logo?
Is $15 million too much to spend on a logo?
What would make an appropriate logo for ANZ bank?

It seems as though the logo resembles a person throwing their hands up in “awww” and looking completely exasperated. I can also hear a slight “sigh” coming from what I think is the mouth. Maybe that is what it’s like to be banking with ANZ?

Not if you look at ANZ’s attitude on their website. CEO, Michael Smith’s profile has not been updated since October 2007 so is $15 million too much? Do they even know it cost $15mm? I think the executive team at ANZ sat around a table congratulating themselves for a good job and tooting their own horns. And of course they got a bonus for a job well done.

Gimme a dollar and I'll tell ya.

I came across that website for a different reason, but I liked the article in there

I am banking with ANZ, so their change of logo concerns me a lot because I have to cope with this ugly thing from now.

P.S. Sam, you are right too, they've wasted the money and now ANZ wants us to believe that they've done a good job.
